Candlelit Vigils for the Fairmile Tunnellers
Candlelit vigils are being held every night from tonight at 10.00pm at the Clock Tower roundabout, Northbrook Street, Newbury in support of the tunnellers at the Fairmile A30 road protest. The occupation of the tunnels has so far lasted five days and seems set to continue.
People around the country are being aked to hold similar vigils to highlight the actions of the protesters of Fairmile, and in particular to draw attention to the following issues:
1. To ask for the re-instatement of the tunnel communications for the safety and sanity of the tunnel dwellers.
2. To demand the release of details of DBFO contracts so the public knows exactly how much of an extra drain they are on the public purse.
3. To call for new public enquiries into all DBFO schemes based on the contract details.
Martin Jakes, a spokesperson for Third Battle, said "The events at Fairmile are history in the making. It is very important that people feel able to support the tunnel dwellers, even if they cannot be there themselves. In the process, very important issues about the road building programme are being raised in the run up to the election."
Rosie Harper, a concerned mother and full time supporter of the A30 campaign says "This is something everyone can do even if they are too nervous to take part in direct action but want to support the tunnellers and their bravery"
