Work stops on the Newbury Bypass
People attending Sunday's route walk and rally against the Newbury by-pass are being invited to stay overnight for a mass tresspass to prevent tree felling on Monday 13th February.
The sunday rally organised jointly by Third Battle/Friends of the Earth/Greenpeace is expected to attract thousands of participants. They will arrive in coaches and by train from all over the country to swell the ranks of local people opposed to the road. Those who stay to join the Third Battle of Newbury on Monday can expect to see people risking arrest to stop work. The peaceful protest is expected to good natured and may include yetis, pantomime horses, bunnies against the by-pass, and, the ultimate weapon, an enthusiastic bagpipe player.
Local groups are
providing overnight accommodation in marquees and local residents are offering
space in their homes. The more committed can share a `bender' at one of
the twenty-odd camps now on the route.
