Accessibility

"The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect."Tim Berners-Lee, World Wide Web Consortium Director and inventor of the World Wide Web.
Our commitment
Save Stonehenge! is fully committed to the principle that websites should be equally accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, people using older web browsers, and people using small screens or new technologies such as WAP. (See the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Accessibility Initiative for more on this.) Designing websites with accessibility in mind benefits everyone, not just the disabled.
Can you use our website easily?
If you have difficulty reading our pages, you should be able to resize the font and alter the page colors as you need by changing your browser options or preferences. For example, it is very easy in most browsers to increase the font size if you have trouble reading words on the screen. The BBC has a really good accessibility website explaining some of the ways you can customize your browser to improve accessibility.
We have tried to make our site accessible
- We have deliberately created our website using simply designed, text-based, easy-to-navigate pages that should work in any browser, at any screen resolution, with any size of any font.
- We try to make as much of our information available in HTML (ordinary web page) format as possible, rather than PDF or DOC. Although it's not possible to convert every document this way, we do try.
- We have tested most of the pages on a range of different browsers, including Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, Konqueror, and the text-only Lynx browser used by many disabled people. We have also tested to make sure our users can navigate around our website without using a mouse.
- In December 2006, we (finally!) rebuilt the entire website with cascading style sheets (CSS) to improve accessibility even more. We also replaced our graphical buttons with HTML text links to improve accessibility and access through online translation services.
Please tell us if you have problems with our site
We've put a lot of effort into improving accessibility and we hope our site works for you. If you find anything that causes problems for you or you would like to make suggestions for how we can improve the accessibility of our pages, please do let us know.
